Please be advised that we experienced a network outage starting at 23:30 02/10/22 until 03:00 03/10/22, this affected our monitoring solution's connectivity to client environments. Due to this, a large number of alerts were raised stating both servers and services were offline, these alerts were not valid and there was no impact to service. This was caused by one of our network providers carrying out planned maintenance which was not properly communicated with us, therefore we were unable to preemptively manage the downtime of our monitoring service. We apologise for any alarm caused by this, however please be assured your service will have remained online during this time. If you have any concerns, please reach out to support at [email protected]

Starting at 1323, monitoring systems detected a number of issues relating to connectivity flaps outside the Ekco network. A very small number of clients may have seen brief drops as connections re-routed via redundant paths, as well as seeing connectivity intermittency to third party services such as Microsoft Office 365. We are liaising with our upstream Tier-1 providers to find out more information on what appears to be a global issue. Should you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to Support via [email protected] or call +44 1273 987 920.

Upstream transit intermittency: NTT
Starting at 1613 20/05/2022, Ekco's monitoring systems detected some intermittency relating to the upstream provider NTT. While Ekco peer with NTT, there was no impact on the Ekco platform, as the NTT core router experiencing issues was unrelated to Ekco's traffic flow. However, some customers with circuits or VPNs via third-party providers may have seen some intermittency during this time, given NTT's position as one of the largest carriers on the internet. NTT have since confirmed that they have stabilized the router in question, and our monitors to third-party destinations cleared as of 1816 20/05/2022. Should you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to Support via [email protected] or call +44 1273 987 920.

vCloud Platform Minor Compute Degradation (Telehouse West, UK)
At approx 5:10 pm at Telehouse West Data Centre (THW) a VMWare ESXi host encountered an issue due to what we have subsequently identified as a hardware fault. This was detected immediately through proactive monitoring and the host is now isolated in maintenance mode and no longer part of the production cluster. From initial investigation, we understand a small number of VMs may have restarted when this issue occurred. We hope to provide a list of the VMs that may have restarted tonight and will post subsequent updates on StatusPage. Please get in touch if you have any queries. Thanks, Ekco Cloud Edinburgh.

Linux Local Privilege Escalation Vulnerability Discovered in polkit’s pkexec (CVE-2021-4034)
We are currently investigating a Linux vulnerability (CVE-2021-4034). Polkit (formerly PolicyKit) is a component for controlling system-wide privileges in Unix-like operating systems. It provides an organized way for non-privileged processes to communicate with privileged processes. It is also possible to use polkit to execute commands with elevated privileges using the command pkexec followed by the command intended to be executed (with root permission).
