Impact Statement: Starting at 09:50 UTC on 07 Sep 2022, a subset of customers using Azure Cosmos DB in North Europe may experience issues accessing services. Connections to Cosmos DB accounts in this region may result in an error or timeout.Current Status: We have identified an internal service operation that we believe is causing aggressive retries from many clients, leading to an overwhelming number of connections. This caused a subset of nodes in a single Cosmos DB cluster to become unavailable, which led to remaining nodes on the cluster to reach and operational threshold and become unavailable. We are working with the relevant internal service teams to prevent their impact. Given that our investigation and mitigation activities are still ongoing, we are still recommending that impacted customers running critical workloads manually failover operation to a nearby region, if their Cosmos DB is configured to use multiple regions. We will provide our next update by 19:45 UTC (45 minutes from now) or sooner if we have progress to share earlier.
