Ransomware group poses as IT support on Microsoft Teams

Minor
October 28, 2024 - Started over 1 year ago

Incident Report

We have been made aware of a new ransomware tactic being used by cyber criminals to target users via Email and MS Teams.

Firstly, the target’s inbox will be spammed with email and then the group will pose as IT support via MS Teams asking if the user would like help removing the spam email. It is at this point that malware is installed to compromise the device, systems and services.

How you can avoid falling victim to this type of crime…

  • Be cautious. Always verify the sender of emails and messages.
  • Do not respond to emails or Teams messages from unverified senders.
  • Report any suspicious activity to the Service Desk or the Cyber Security team.
