Incident Report

Please be aware that UTS and some of our clients recently received a call from someone claiming that AT&T is giving us a free 5G backup Internet modem. The caller did not give any details or an option to decline the offer and mentioned that further details would be sent via email. A few days later, we received only tracking information for the device. However, upon receiving the device, we discovered that the paperwork inside stated that by activating it, you agree to all the terms—and any associated costs. After calling AT&T directly to confirm it was free, we learned the following: The call was not actually from AT&T but from a third party sales company and while the device is free, the service costs $25 per month, with possible additional charges based on usage. While backup Internet options can be beneficial, many of our customers already have backup services in place. As a result, you may be paying for a service you don't need if you activate this device. If you want to return the device, please call the support number provided in the box. Should you have any questions or wish to discuss your office's specific needs, feel free to contact UTS via phone or email.
