Connect App customers are reporting 403s from Jira with 'Auth Error during JWT validation' messages

Between to , we experienced for Atlassian Developer. The issue has been resolved and the service is operating normally.

We've identified the root cause for the issue related to Jira REST APIs failing with '403: Auth Error during JWT validation'. The fix for the issue has been progressively rolling out and we observe a significant drop in the number of errors. We did not detect any impact on the Confluence APIs.

We will continue to monitor the number of errors.

We continue to work on resolving the for Atlassian Developer. We have identified the root cause and published a Hot-Fix.

The ETA for the fix to be fully rolled out for Jira is 11 hours - UTC 2023-07-18T19:00. We are delaying a Confluence release until business hours, as we have not detected any impact on the Confluence product. ETA for Confluence will be similar.

We are investigating reports of intermittent errors for Connect Atlassian Developer Cloud customers.

Starting from 2023-07-12T05:50:36.161Z UCT, a change was deployed into Jira that affected a small percentage of REST API network requests. These requests fail with '403: Auth Error during JWT validation'.

This impact is localised only to Connect apps, for a specific subset/format of requests. We've identified 160k failing requests - 0.032 percent - across 670 apps, 400 Marketplace listed.

We are rolling back this change, and will send next comms once the release is heading to prod.
