Update: The fixed version of the Big Team Challenge Android app has been approved and is now rolling out in the Google Play Store 📡

Install the new version: Open up the Play Store and search for 'Big Team Challenge' (or visit https://bigteamchallenge.app/android). Press 'Update' if that option shows, or 'Install' if you don't already have the app installed.

If the update doesn't show: You may have to turn your phone off and on again, or clear the Play Store cache:

1. On your Android phone or tablet, open the Settings app.

2. Tap Apps and notifications and then See all apps.

3. Scroll down and tap Google Play Store.

4.Tap Storage and then Clear cache.

5. Tap Clear data.

6. Re-open the Play Store and try re-installing again.

If the Android app is still crashing: You may have the old version of the app. Search for the app in the Play Store, tap on Big Team Challenge and click on "About this app". The Version should show as 2.2.20 (the fixed version). If it shows 2.2.18 or 2.2.19, you may need to clear the cache (see above) or wait for the update to become available on your account.

We apologise for the inconvenience and appreciate your patience! 🙏

Update: On 9th June we submitted a fixed version of our Android app to the Google Play Store, which is currently undergoing Google's standard review process. Unfortunately we are still in the queue for review and this may still take several hours to process. The review timeline is outside our control but we apologise for the inconvenience and appreciate your patience. We are monitoring this closely and will update this page once the fix is live to download.

Will I lose my steps? No, your progress is safe. Any missing background steps will automatically resume syncing to your challenge once the new update is available and installed on your device. If you choose to re-install (see below), you will be asked to allow access to Health Connect again.

You can also manually log your distance from the web version - see https://help.bigteamchallenge.com/en/articles/152981-adding-your-distance-manually for instructions.

--

How to access your challenge right now: You can access the challenge on the web version, or you can try re-install a working version of the Android app.

1. On Web:

In the meantime, you can fully access your account and view your challenge by visiting your challenge website (e.g. yourcompany.bigteamchallenge.com) using any web browser. If you're not sure about the website address, ask a colleague or check your email inbox for your "login details for Big Team Challenge" email.

2. On Android

We have rolled back the available version on the Google Play Store. If your app is crashing, you could try uninstalling the app (click and hold on the Challenge icon > App info > Uninstall). To re-install, open the Play Store and search for "big team challenge" or visit https://bigteamchallenge.app/android.

Once you have re-installed, login using your website address and previous login details. You will be asked to allow access to Health Connect again (if previously connected) - ensure you allow access to resume syncing.

Important: before re-installing, click on "About this app" and ensure that the Version is shown as 2.2.18 (the previous working version) or 2.2.20 (the fixed version). If it shows 2.2.19, you may need to clear the Play Store cache:

We have identified and tested a fix for the bug / crash affecting some Android users. This was caused by an underlying component not being compatible with the latest version.

An updated version (v2.2.20) has been submitted to Google for review and we'll update this incident when that has been approved and is rolling out via the Play Store.

If you need to access your challenge in the meantime you can visit your challenge website via your web browser. Your missing steps should resume syncing once the update is available and has been installed. Apologies for the inconvenience!
