Microsoft Edge Issue - Webpages not Loading Intermittently

Minor
February 23, 2026 - Started 24 days ago

Incident Report

After a recent browser update from Microsoft, we identified an issue affecting some Windows devices using Microsoft Edge where webpages may load indefinitely. After investigation, we’ve determined that in certain cases the browser extension is not automatically starting, which prevents traffic from being processed as expected.

Our Engineering team has been working on this throughout the day and is actively finalizing a fix. We expect to have an updated extension available soon. Once released, the update will be automatically pushed out, no action will be required on your end.

We sincerely apologize for the disruption this may have caused and understand how impactful browser performance issues can be in a school environment. Please know this is our top priority, and we are moving as quickly as possible to resolve it fully.

Thank you for your patience and for being a valued customer. We truly appreciate your partnership.

We wanted to provide a quick update regarding the Microsoft Edge issue impacting some Windows devices.

Our Engineering team has successfully recreated the issue in our internal environment and is actively working on a fix. This is an important step forward, as it allows us to validate the root cause and ensure the resolution is fully tested before release.

We will provide another update by the end of the day, or sooner if the issue is fully resolved and a fix is available.

Thank you again for your patience and partnership while we work through this. We truly appreciate it.

Here is the latest update regarding the Edge browser loading issue.

At this time, a permanent solution has not yet been finalized. The Engineering team has made several important discoveries that are helping narrow the root cause. Work is actively continuing, and collaboration is underway with a small group of schools after-hours to test changes in live environments and accelerate progress.

There is optimism that significant progress will be made during U.S. overnight hours while device usage is lower and testing opportunities are greater.

The impact this issue may be having is fully understood, and resolving it remains the highest priority. Additional updates will be shared as soon as meaningful progress is available.

Thank you for your continued patience and partnership.

We are currently investigating reports of degraded performance affecting the Linewize extension. Users may experience slow loading times or browser instability specifically within Chrome and Edge environments.

Our engineering team is currently triaging the impact and investigating potential compatibility issues with recent Chromium-based browser versions. We are working to restore standard service levels as quickly as possible.

Further updates will be posted here as our investigation progresses.

Here is the latest update regarding the browser loading issue impacting certain Windows devices.

A permanent fix is not yet in place. However, additional progress has been made, and expanded testing is occurring over the next several hours. Current findings indicate this is a Chromium-related issue that surfaced following multiple recent Microsoft updates and appears to primarily affect devices with lower hardware specifications.

Work will continue throughout U.S. overnight hours to take advantage of lower device usage and allow for broader validation. The team remains hopeful that continued progress will lead to a positive update in the morning.

Thank you again for your patience and partnership while this is being addressed.

Overnight, the Engineering team developed and validated a new test build of the browser extension. Initial results show measurable improvement in service worker startup times, even while the underlying Chromium bug remains present. Performance gains have been most notable on lower-specification devices, where impact has been greatest.

In addition to improving performance, this test build has provided valuable insight into further architectural optimizations that are being incorporated as work continues toward a full and permanent resolution. While the Chromium team is actively working on their identified bug, resolution efforts are not dependent on their timeline and will continue independently.

A small group of customers is currently assisting with validation of the test build. Data will be collected and closely monitored over the next several days to evaluate stability and overall effectiveness.

Additional updates, including any announcement of a production-ready release, will be communicated on this status page.

Thank you for your continued patience and partnership.

We are writing to provide an update on the performance degradation issues some users are experiencing.

What is happening:
Our engineering team has identified that the sluggishness and "hanging" tabs at browser startup are caused by a conflict between a recent change in the Chromium engine (affecting both Chrome and Edge) and the extension's initialization process. This issue is most prevalent on devices with lower CPU specifications or those running multiple third-party extensions. On these devices, the browser becomes saturated during startup, causing the extension to time out and prevent web pages from loading.

What we are doing:
We have developed and are currently validating a series of targeted improvements to our extension's startup architecture to alleviate this pressure. Initial testing on low-spec hardware has shown significant improvements in responsiveness. We are working toward a release to deploy these optimizations as soon as possible.

We apologize for the frustration this has caused and will provide further updates as our optimized build moves through final validation.

Here is the latest update regarding the Chromium-related browser issue that is impacting lower-spec, Windows machines.

An update to the browser extension (version 3.7.5) is scheduled for release overnight. This is a planned release that includes previously scheduled Classwize enhancements. In addition, the update contains a partial fix that has demonstrated an average reduction in page load times of approximately 10 seconds during testing.

While this improvement is meaningful, it does not represent a full resolution. Engineering efforts remain focused on delivering a permanent solution. Ongoing testing continues to show promising results, and further optimizations are actively being evaluated.

It is also important to note that the recent Chromium update (version 1.4.7) has not resolved the underlying issue.

Work will continue until a complete and stable fix is in place. Additional updates will be shared as progress continues.

Thank you for your continued patience and partnership.

We have successfully mitigated the Chromium-related browser issue affecting lower-spec, Windows machines in our latest version of the Connect Agent for Windows. This version containing the fix is currently undergoing testing. Barring any issues during Quality Assurance testing, we expect to deploy the fix by the middle of next week.
