Title: Some users may experience delays receiving notifications in SharePoint Online

User impact: Users may experience delays receiving notifications in SharePoint Online.

More info: Impacting delays may exceed five hours.

Current status: We've confirmed that search requests and navigation of SharePoint Online weren't affected, however, notifications related to SharePoint Online activity were affected, and have adjusted our Title and User Impact accordingly. We've identified a change which was responsible for queuing notifications between two components responsible for routing notification requests from the SharePoint Online service. This code portion has been disabled to resolve impact, and fresh notifications should be received with no issue. In parallel, we're working to drain the backlog of previous notifications to ensure users receive these and fully resolve the issue.

Scope of impact: Users hosted in the impacted region may experience delays receiving notifications in SharePoint Online.

Start time: Tuesday, October 10, 2023, at 1:30 PM UTC

Root cause: An enabled code portion was responsible for queuing notifications between two components responsible for routing notification requests from the SharePoint Online service.
