Incident Report
Hello,
Please be aware of the below,
**Planned Maintenance Update:** PayGate Browser Extension Manifest File Update
**When**: 16th May 2024, AM.
NB: PayGate R&D will update the Chrome store around 08.00 but it may take several hours before Chrome or Edge automatically updates the extension. Unfortunately, we are not able to control how long the process takes.
**Browsers affected**: Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge
**Who:** Clients using the browser extension for the above browsers: Smartcard users, USB token users, Restricted File Browser Users.
Please note that HSM Clients are NOT affected.
**What:**
Chrome are making a change to the way browser extensions work. The change is to a component called the ‘manifest’ file and it means we are also updating the PayGate extension to make it compatible with the new Chrome requirements. This change affects both Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge browsers.
Our Development and QA teams have carried out extensive testing and simulations of the change. Once Chrome has made the changes, we are not able to reverse the change.
**Risks associated with the update:**
Whilst every effort has been made to ensure that there is no service disruption, some risks have been identified, due to the nature of this change, with the worst case scenario being that this update by Chrome could force the extension to stop working. This could result into following issues:
Using smart cards for signing BACS submissions or connecting to the BACS service for submissions
Using USB tokens with PayGate
Using the restricted file browser - that many customers use to browse for and upload files to PayGate
**Please note:** HSM users are not affected by this issue.
**Possible work around if you experience service disruptions;**
Should you face any issues, the following workarounds have been identified that might help clients in the event of the update not going as planned.
The Firefox browser extension is unaffected by this change and will continue to work as expected. Therefore, a possible workaround would be for to temporarily use the Firefox browser and extension.
Another possible workaround is to use the Edge Browser in IE mode. Note this might not be available to all users as it can be disabled by IT departments.

**Chrome and Edge:** https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/paygate-extension-for-chr/eggfdiclclcdinahafjoafjkapafhkgf
**Please note:** You may need support from your IT team to download above extensions.
The PayGate team will be performing additional testing as soon as the new extension is live and we will issue a further communication once we have confirmed that the new extension has successfully been deployed.
