Pleo experienced SMS delivery issues caused by their SMS provider's degraded service, initially affecting some users and later confirmed to impact customers specifically in Sweden, Denmark, Norway, and Italy. The incident prevented users from receiving SMS verification codes needed for viewing cards, creating new cards, and onboarding new users. Pleo provided a workaround by directing affected users to switch to TOTP authentication via an authenticator app while the SMS provider worked to resolve the underlying issue.
