Virtual Machines - East US 2 - Applying Mitigation
As of 07:01 UTC on 31 Jan 2023, customers using Virtual Machines in East US 2 may receive error notifications when performing service management operations - such as create, delete, update, scaling, start, stop - for resources hosted in this region. Only Availability Zone 02 is currently impacted, however Availability Zones 01 and 03 are not impacted. Automatic monitoring alerted us of two partitions of a backend service hosted in East US 2 region becoming unhealthy due to a data process issue. Due to dependencies between services, this manifests in failures when performing service management operations for a subset of Virtual Machines customers with resources in a single Availability Zone. We are working to restore the partitions to a healthy state and will provide an update with our progress in 1 hour, or sooner as events warrant.

This impacted connectivity between clients on the internet to Azure, as well as connectivity between services in datacenters, as well as ExpressRoute connections. Current Status:We have identified a recent change to WAN as the underlying cause, and have taken steps to roll back this change. Our telemetry shows consistent signs of recovery from 09:45 UTC onwards across multiple regions and services. Most customers should now see full recovery as WAN networking has recovered fully. We are working to monitor and ensure full recovery for services that were impacted. The next u...
