Quad9 Outage History

Quad9's global Points of Presence (PoPs) experienced OCSP validation failures for approximately 2.5 hours, causing encrypted DNS protocols to malfunction and preventing TLS handshakes from completing. Users were unable to establish secure DNS connections during this period. The issue was resolved after 41 minutes of active investigation.

Quad9's Frankfurt Point of Presence (PoP) went offline due to network equipment failure, causing traffic to reroute to neighboring locations in Germany and The Netherlands. Users experienced service degradation during peak hours over the 123-hour outage period. The incident was resolved after replacing the affected network equipment and restoring Frankfurt's service announcements.

Quad9's Lisbon Point of Presence experienced degraded performance for over 36 days due to significantly increased demand that exceeded available capacity. The service was resolved by deploying a replacement PoP called "qlis1" with substantially more capacity. Some Portuguese ISPs (Meo and Vodafone) are temporarily routing through Madrid while BGP policies are adjusted to direct traffic to the new Lisbon location.
